An officer conducting speed patrol at approximately 12:30 a.m. on March 24 on the Sherwood Island Connector spotted a vehicle traveling 57 mph in a 40 mph zone, and when it passed the police car, which was parked in the shoulder, the driver traveled over the fog line, nearly striking the vehicle, police said.
The officer proceeded to stop the driver, Bridgeport resident Michael Tayler, 41, and during the traffic stop, police said that there was an odor of alcohol on Tayler’s breath. Tayler proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and he was arrested.
Tayler was charged with a misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and cited for speeding and failure to maintain his lane of traffic. Following arraignment, Tayler was released on $500 bail and is due back in Norwalk Justice Court on April 3 to answer the charge.
